Step 1.
The first thing to do is send me as many photos as you can of the pet, meanwhile we have a dialogue over email and/or phone where you fill me in on its personality and a little backstory, point out any photos that capture the essence of the pet the most. We discuss sizes, colours and styles. Do you want something with bright colours or patterns? Do you want me to include some recognisable details of the house for example a favourite chair or rug?
Step 2.
I spend some time studying the photos and making sketches for form and colour, then I send you some rough options. This is the stage where we start to be able to actually visualise our ideas and build up a clearer picture of how it could look. Below are some real examples of digital sketches I made for a client who wasn't completely sure what she wanted so I gave her some very varied options to get the creative juices flowing.

What would it be like if you commissioned me?
Step 3.
Once we have a clear direction I produce a handful of finessed sketches which will be variations on the same concept. Continuing with the example of the client mentioned above, these are the ideas I produced once she'd decided on a square format and a sitting pose surrounded by plants. She asked me to mix elements of both the images on the bottom row with the pink rug.
Step 4.
I paint it! I use acrylic on canvas because the vivid colour and texture is unmatched and the fast drying times means you're not waiting ages to get your beautiful painting. This process usually takes two full days, during which time I'll be updating you with photos.
